Truman Knowles Earns SCIAC Field Athlete of the Week Honors

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Truman Knowles of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's track and field team captured the SCIAC Field Athlete of the Week Award for events through Sunday, March 26, the conference office announced today.

Knowles finished second in the javelin out of 16 competitors at the Mangrum Invitational, hosted by CSU San Marcos, with a throw of 184 feet. That throw ranks 12th in Division III this year and was behind only a thrower from Division II Azusa Pacific. It was his top throw of the season after breaking the CMS record to earn All-America honors last year.

Knowles becomes the third different men's thrower to win the SCIAC Field Athlete of the Week this season. Sarath Kakani earned it a week ago after throwing 52-6 in the shot put, while Jason Bowman captured it in February after the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers Meet. Christian Campbell, Joshua Martinez and Miles Christensen have won the SCIAC Track Athlete of the Week Award.

CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it competes in the second SCIAC Multi-Dual, which will be hosted by Occidental.
