Christian Campbell Earns Invitation to NCAA Indoor Championships

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Christian Campbell of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's track and field qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships in the 200 meters at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama this weekend.

Campbell recorded the 12th fastest time during indoor season in the one indoor meet he attended, running a 21.52 at the Whitworth Invitational. The top time in indoor season was run by Sam Blaskowski of Wisconsin-La Crosse at the WIAC Indoor Championships of 20.92, with second place a 21.20 by Landen Liu of Bethel.

The top eight finishers receive All-America honors and Campbell will be in that mix according to seed times, just .10 off the runner who is seeded eighth (JP Vaught of Centre) with a 21.42.

Campbell has also made his mark in the outdoor season already this winter as well, setting a new program record in the 100 meters with a 10.47, breaking a mark of 10.52 that had stood for 35 years since Mark Messana set it in 1988. That stands as the fastest time in Division III outdoor season so far (.15 ahead of Vaught), and he also has the second-fastest outdoor 200 time of 21.51, which places fourth in CMS history.

Campbell will be making his first individual appearance at an NCAA Championship, after qualifying with the 4x400 relay team at the outdoor championship last year.
