Joshua Martinez Takes SCIAC Track Athlete of the Week Award for Stags

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Joshua Martinez of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's track and field team took home the SCIAC Track Athlete of the Week honor for events through Sunday, March 5, the league office announced today.

Martinez dominated the two hurdles events as CMS swept its multi-dual with Redlands, Caltech and Cal Lutheran, while also anchoring the winning 4x100 relay. His 110 meter hurdles time of 15.07 won the race by almost a second and a half (1.47), while his 400 hurdles time was almost a two second margin of victory as well (57.79 to 59.66). The 4x100 was a tight win, with Martinez holding off Redlands on the anchor leg by .54. He also added a second-place finish in the field events (long jump of 21-4.25, just 1.25 inches off the leader).

Martinez joins Christian Campbell, who won it after breaking the CMS record in the 100-meter dash at the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers meet, on the list of SCIAC Track Athlete of the Week winners. Jason Bowman has also won the CMS Field Athlete of the Week honor.

CMS will be back in action at the Occidental Distance and Sprint Carnival this weekend.
