Campbell, Bowman Sweep SCIAC Track and Field Awards for Stags

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Christian Campbell was named the SCIAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week and Jason Bowman earned the SCIAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week for events through Sunday, Feb. 19, the league office announced today.

Campbell broke a 35-year old program record in the 100 meters at the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers Meet, taking first place with a 10.47. The old mark of 10.52 had stood since 1988, when Mark Messana set it (also at Pomona-Pitzer). He ran it .28 faster than anyone else in the meet, and .41 faster than any other collegiate runner. He also ran the 4x100 relay that finished first in 41.19, just barely off the program record of 41.15, which he anchored last year.

Bowman won the hammer throw and finished second in the discus and the shot put (both to fellow Stags) as part of the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers Meet. Bowman's hammer throw was 54.47 meters (178'8"), a margin of 47 feet over the second-place finisher from Azusa Pacific. In the discus, his throw of 37.08 meters (121'8") was three inches behind teammate Ian Osborne, while his shot put of 14.11 meters (46'3.5") was two feet, two inches behind defending SCIAC Champion Sarath Kakani.

CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts the Rossi Relays at Burns Track Complex.
