Campbell Wins 200 Meters at Whitworth Invitational for CMS Men's Track and Field

SPOKANE, Wash. - Christian Campbell won the 200 meters at the Whitworth Invitational by one-hundredth of a second in the sixth-fastest time in NCAA Division III indoor season to highlight the performances of the CMS men's track and field teams this weekend.

Campbell won a photo finish in the 200 meters, crossing the line in 21.52 seconds to just edge Spencer Barrera of Division I Idaho in 21.53 seconds. Nick Teresi also came in 13th and Quincey Williams 19th to earn top-20 finishes in a field of 73 runners. 

Campbell qualified for the finals of the 60 meters, where he came in fifth place with a time of 6.98 seconds (after a 6.91 in prelims, which ranks 21st nationally). Ellis DelVecchio clocked a 1:57.62 in the 800 meters to place 13th. Joshua Martinez qualified for the finals of the 60-meter hurdles and came in third place with a time of 8.26 seconds, which places 21st nationally.

The 4x400 relay team of DelVecchio, Williams, Campbell and Teresi also finished second in a time of 3:20.44.  

In the field events, John Horan finished third in the pole vault with a clearance of 14'10" (4.52 meters), with Leo Sundstrom sixth at 13'10" (4.22 meters). Sarath Kakani was third in the shot put at 49'6.5" (15.10) meters, with Jason Bowman sixth at 47'10.5" (14.59 meters). Bowman also added a fourth-place finish in the weight throw on Friday with a top distance of 52'5.5" (15.99 meters). 

In addition to the athletes competing at Whitworth, the distance medley relay team of Miles Christensen, Colin Scanlon, Kai Dettman and Henry Pick also came in 13th with a 9:54.58 at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University, which ranks as the No. 10 time in Division III this season. Christensen ran an 8:26.59 in the 3000 individually, while Pick ran a 4:09.99 mile which ranks No. 22 in the country, Scanlon ran a 51.20 in the 400 and Dettman ran a 1:55.16 in the 800.

CMS will be back in action next weekend at the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers Meet, while the NCAA Division III Championships will take place on March 10-11 in Birmingham, Alabama.
