Steinberg Sets Second CMS Track and Field Record of 2022 Season with New 10K Mark

WALNUT, Calif. – Stevie Steinberg, who earlier this season set a new CMS record in the 5000 meters, added the 10000-meter record to his resume as well by finishing with a 30:17.75 at the Mt. Sac Relays on Thursday evening.

Steinberg took just over seven seconds off the old CMS record of 30:25.13, which was set by Brian Sutter in 2013. Steinberg ran a 14:15.36 in the 5000 at the Occidental Distance Carnival last month, which moved him past his former teammate, Thomas D'Anieri, who set the old mark of 14:21.04 in 2018. His track and field performances have carried over from his impressive fall season, when he earned All-America honors at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships with a 22nd-place finish.

Steinberg's program record wasn't the only big performance from a CMS distance runner this week, either, as Adam Wilkinson moved into third place in CMS history in the steeplechase at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Wednesday evening at Azusa Pacific, finishing in a time of 9:08.42.

Wilkinson's time also now unofficially places him third this season nationally in Division III (pending other results) and moves him just ahead of teammate Evan Hassman in fourth all-time at CMS, who ran a 9:08.60 in 2019 on his way to earning All-SCIAC honors.

Kai Dettman also competed at the Bryan Clay Invitational on Thursday in the 800 meters and finished 75th out of almost 200 runners from all divisions with a 1:51.86.

Several CMS student-athletes will be in action tomorrow at the Bryan Clay Invitational, including the 4x100 and 4x400 relays, as well as Christian Campbell in the 100, Jamie Cockburn in the 200, Massimo Bertini in the 400, John Horan in the pole vault, and Maxwell Knowles and Truman Knowles in the javelin.

The full team will be in action on Saturday at the third SCIAC Multi-Dual, hosted by La Verne, in the final tune-up before the SCIAC Championships on April 30 and May 1.
