Massimo Bertini Wins SCIAC Track Athlete of Week Honor for Second Time in 2022 Season

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Massimo Bertini earned the SCIAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week honor for events through Sunday, March 27, the league office announced today.

Bertini earned it this week after winning both the 200 meters and the 400 meters on Saturday at the Westmont Classic. He ran the fastest 400 so far in Division III during outdoor season, crossing the line in 48.24 seconds, almost a half-second faster than the second-fastest time, and also ran a 21.94 in the 200 meters to take first place, which ranks him 22nd in the country this season.

It marks the second time this spring that Bertini has earned the award, after also taking it following a sweep of the 200 and 400 meters at the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers Meet back in February. CMS has had four total awards already this spring, as Sarath Kakani (shot put) and Maxwell Knowles (javelin) have each earned the Field Athlete of the Week award so far this year.

CMS will be back in action this weekend when it hosts a five-team SCIAC Multi-Dual on Saturday at the Burns Track Complex, beginning at 10 a.m.
