Kai Dettman Records Second-Best 800 Time in NCAA Division III Indoor Season

BOSTON, Mass. - Kai Dettman and Massimo Bertini attended the Boston University Last Chance Meet to attempt to qualify for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships next month, and Dettman put himself in outstanding position with the second-best time in the 800 meters in the country this season.

Dettman ran a 1:50.11 on the banked track at Boston University, which officially is recorded on the Division III performance list as a 1:51.69. Only Mike Jasa of Loras (1:50.13) has run a faster time in Division III during indoor season this year, while Dettman pulled just in front of Ryan Wilson of MIT, who ran a 1:50.16 on the same banked track at BU earlier this month.

Bertini, meanwhile, ran a 48.56 at Boston University, which tied him for fourth out of 19 runners at the event. His adjusted time on the Division III performance list puts him at 49.34, which ranks 18th in the nation.

CMS will wait and see which of its athletes earn invitations to the national indoor championships, which will be held in two weeks on March 11-12 in Winston Salem, North Carolina.
