Men's 4x4 Relay Team Takes First Place at Aztec Invitational

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The 4x400 relay team of Alex McDonald, Daniel Addison, Keizo Morgan and Jamie Cockburn came in first place at the San Diego State Aztec Invitational on Friday afternoon, while McDonald came in second place in the 400-meter hurdles to highlight the performance of the CMS men's track and field team.

The Stags' relay finished in 3:24.60, a margin of victory of over six seconds ahead of West Los Angeles (3:31.29), Ranger (3:32.65) and Riverside (3:33.11) in the 2-3-4 spots.

McDonald came in second in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.88, falling only behind Robert Hatch of Division I Wisconsin, who finished in 53.28. McDonald edged out the competition in a tight battle for second, finishing four-hundredths of a second ahead of Corey Lakin of Riverside in third and .39 ahead of Johnathan Newsome of Biola in fourth. 

Morgan had a strong showing in the 400-yard dash for the Stags, coming in ninth place in 51.62 seconds. Cockburn, meanwhile, ran a 22.29 in the 200, placing him 16th out of 59 in an event that featured three runners from Arizona in the top 10, as well as runners from Wisconsin and Kansas State.  

Sophomore Dylan McGarvey earned a top-10 finish in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.35 seconds, with six of the runners ahead of him representing Division I programs BYU and Kansas State. Corbin Bethurem finished in the top 20 in the 100-meter dash in 11.01 seconds, coming in 19th place out of 55 runners.  

The CMS javelin throwers competed at UC San Diego and had a strong showing, finishing in the 2-3-4 spots. Sophomore Jordan Venglass was second with a 176'1" throw, just ahead of junior Maxwell Knowles (175'0") in third. Connor Schulz had his top throw of 159'1" place fourth. 

In the field events, sophomore Ross Rainaldi was seventh in the high jump, clearing an even six feet. Freshman Garegin Soghomonyan was ninth in the pole vault with a top clearance of 13'10", placing him in the upper half of a field of 22 competitors. Junior Tse Yang Lim, meanwhile, came in sixth out of 12 in the triple jump with a top distance of 44'0.75" 

CMS will be back in action next weekend for a SCIAC Multi-Dual, hosted by Caltech on Saturday.
