McDonald Highlights Westmont On Your Marks Meet

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's track and field team opened the 2018 season at the Westmont On Your Marks Meet on Saturday. While the Stags did not bring their full roster to the event, CMS had a strong showing in their season opener with Alex McDonald (CMC) providing the highlight of the day with a victory in the 400 meter dash (50.81). Including McDonald's victory, the Stags collected four top-three finishes.

On the Track
As mentioned, McDonald's collegiate debut resulted in his first collegiate victory. The freshman's time of 50.81 earned him the top spot in the 400 meter dash by .33 of a second over Octavio Moreno from Santa Ana, who finished in second-place with a time of 51.14.

In addition to his individual victory, McDonald also helped the Stags to a second-place finish in the 4x400 meter relay. The team of Matthew Guillory (HMC), McDonald, Eamon Brady (CMC) and Justin Estrada (CMC) finished in a time of 3:27.20. SCIAC foe La Verne finished first in the race with a time of 3:23.65.

Dylan McGravey (CMC) turned in a third-place finish in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 9.10. McGravey finished less than a second off the lead.

Guillory (23.25) and Estrada (23.99) finished in the top-20 of the 200 meter dash, finishing in seventh and 17th, respectively.

In the Field
In addition to running in the 4x400 relay, Brady competed in the triple jump and took third place in the event with a jump of 12.52 meters. Brady's third-place finish was the highest finish by a Stag in a field event on the day.

Reese Peterson (HMC) took home a pair of top-10 finishes in the weight throw and shot put. His weight throw of 12.95 meters earned him a seventh-place finish. He did one spot better in the shot put where he finished sixth with a 13.24-meter heave.

The Stags were represented by Lim (5.87m), Brady (5.80m), and Eric Myers (CMC - 5.66m) in the long jump where the trio finished consecutively in sixth, seventh, and eighth.

The Stags will be back in action two weeks from today when they travel to Houston for the Howie Ryan Invitational at the University of Houston on Feb. 9.
