On Court: As a USTA junior player got as high as 54th in his recruiting class on tennisrecruiting.com and the only five-star recruit in Division III for the class of 2015...finished 4th at Irvine Level 2 National Open in November of 2010, after winning SoCal 18s Doubles Sectionals with partner Daniel Faierman two weeks earlier...also won Level 3 Quiksilver 18 singles in May, 2010...playing for La Jolla Country Day, won back-to-back CIF team championships and individual doubles championships as a junior and senior...highest junior rankings: #5 in SoCal 16s, #23 Nationally in 16s, #110 Nationally in 18s...won sportsmanship awards in 2008 and 2010 for San Diego and Southern California respectively...16s Player of the Year in San Diego for 2009...qualified and won matches at 16s Winter Nationals and 16s and 18s Kalamazoo...as a freshman debuted at USTA / ITA West Regionals as the 5th seed in singles and 3rd seed in doubles (with Lane)...reached the semis of singles (losing to teammate Alex Johnson in three sets) and the finals of the doubles, earning him fall rankings of #19 nationally and #6 in the west in singles, and #10 nationally and #3 in the west with Lane in doubles...played almost exclusively at the #1 singles and doubles position all spring en route to an outstanding first season as a Stag...won seven straight matches from March 24 to April 14, including wins over Chafetz of Amherst, Parower of Middlebury, Donkena of Gustavus, and Meyer of Pomona-Pitzer...was 14-8 in dual matches and 20-11 overall in singles, qualifying for the NCAA singles tournament as one of the eight best in the west region...partnered Alex Lane at the #1 position in February and March, with the pair going 11-3...paired up with Nik Marino at #1 and #2 for April and May and went 9-7...finished with a 22-11 overall doubles record...earned 1st Team All SCIAC honors, as well as ITA West Region and National Rookie of the Year award, the first time a CMS player has earned both the regional and national award...as a sophomore began the fall going 2-1 in singles, losing in the third round of the USTA / ITA West Regional...partnered Joe Dorn to win the West Regional doubles and then advance to the semifinals of the Division III Nationals...earned a #21 west region pre-season ranking in singles, and a #2 west region rank and #3 national rank with Dorn in doubles...returned in the spring to play #1 singles and #1 doubles in every match that he appeared...was nearly unstoppable against D3 competition, staying undefeated until April 5 where he lost in three sets to then #1 Nick Ballou of Cal Lutheran...Wood would to only three players in D3 all year - Sabel of Pomona-Pitzer at ITA Regionals, Ballou in April and then at SCIAC Championship in May, and teammate Alex Lane at Ojai...along the way he had wins over 12 NCAA qualifiers, including NCAA singles champion Adam Putterman of Wash U, earning year-end national rank of #5...almost equally dominant with partner Dorn in doubles, losing only six times against D3 teams...finished as the fourth best team in the West Region, qualifying for NCAAs...became the first Stag since Lawrence Wang in 2008 to earn ITA All-America honors in singles and doubles in the same year...earned 1st Team All-SCIAC honors for the second straight year and was voted Most Valuable Player by his teammates...overall records of 24-7 in singles and 30-11 in doubles...his 41 matches played and 30 wins with Dorn put the team at #1 all-time in each category for a single season...as a junior entered fall campaign as the top seed of the USTA / ITA West Regionals in singles and doubles (with Dorn)...got two striaght set victories before falling to Pomona-Pitzer's Jake Yasgoor in the round of 16 in singles...reached the quarters of the doubles, losing to Pomona-Pitzer's Bello and Wiechert...ranked #24 in singles and #13 in doubles in fall West Region rankings...quickly established himself as the Stags team leader on court in the spring, taking over the #1 singles position during the second week of the season...after losing season opener in three sets, went on to win next eleven at the top spot before losing a tough 6-3, 7-5 match to eventual NCAA Division I champion Marcos Giron of UCLA on March 25...lost only six total dual matches at the top spot, and only four at the D3 level...was 9-0 in singles tie-breaks and 4-3 in three-setters...won the Ojai D3 singles title over teammate Nik Marino to become only the third Stag in history to accomplish that feat...also earned the top seed in singles and doubles at the NCAA individual tournament...won four straight set matches in the NCAA singles tourney to reach the championship match against Amherst's Joey Fritz...in doubles partnered Joe Dorn for the second straight season...the duo was the #1 team in the West and nationally for the entire spring season...upset on their home courts in the first round of NCAAs after winning each of their matches at the #1 spot in the quarters, semis, and championship of the team tournament...completes the 2014 season with overall records of 32-8 in singles and 26-10 in doubles...his 40 singles matches played and 32 won in 2014 place him #1 and #2 all-time in matches played and won in a single season...his 32 won are second to teammate Skyler Butts' 33 victories in 2014...earned year-end ranks of #1 and #2 in singles in the West and nationally, and #1 and #5 in the West and nationally in doubles...earned ITA All-American honors in singles and doubles for the second straight season...became the first Stag since 2011 to win the SCIAC Athlete of the Year honor...also SCIAC Athlete of the Week for March 3 and April 29...voted by teammates as Stags' Most Valuable Player for history, if not D3 collegiate tennis history...became first Stag to ever lead his team to an NCAA championship and then win the NCAA singles and doubles titles (with Dorn), and only the fifth player ever in 40 years of NCAA D3 tennis...also defended his Ojai D3 singles title to become first Stag to win the prestigious event twice...earned SCIAC Athlete of the Year honors for second straight year to become one of three multiple winners of that honor in Stags tennis history...earned his fourth 1st Team All-SCIAC honor to become one of five in CMS history to earn 1st Team honors all four All-American honors all four years...won the ITA Senior Player of the Year nationally and for the west region, bookending a career that had him winning ITA Rookie Player of the Year honors nationally and regionally as a freshman...also named to the ITA Collegiate All-Star Team and honored at the 2015 US Open...voted by his teammates for an unprecedented fourth straight year as the team's Most Valuable Player and honored as Claremont McKenna College's Male Athlete of the Year...appeared in June 15, 2015 Sports Illustrated edition of Faces in the Crowd for winning the triple crown of D3 tennis, ironically in the same issue as Triple Crown winner American Pharoah...finished 2015 with overall records of 35-7 in singles and 37-4 in doubles to earn #1 ITA rankings in singles and doubles (with Dorn) both regionally and nationally...his 42 singles matches played and 35 wins are both program records for a single season, while his .833 winning percentage was 15th best ever...his 37 doubles wins and .902 winning percentage set new single season records, while he and Joe Dorn won 30 matches for the second time in the career en route to the best team winning percentage (.909) in CMS history...for career marks, Wood's 111-33 singles record and 115-36 doubles record stand alone...he tops the list for matches played (144) and matches won (111), while landing in 5th for career singles winning percentage at .771...similarly in doubles he tops the list with 151 matches played and 115 matches won...as a doubles team with Dorn, the duo finish second all-time in program history with 109 matches played and 85 matches won, third in winning percentage at .780...as the greatest player in CMS Tennis history, Wood is the only Stag to have ever won over 100 singles and 100 doubles matches in his career.
