On Court: Joined the Stags after transferring from Azusa Pacific University...played #3 singles and #3 doubles for an APU team which finished 2010 ranked #3 nationally in NAIA...his 15-6 singles record and 18-3 doubles record gave him the second best combined singles and doubles mark for the Cougars, earning him a #33 year-end national singles rank and 2nd Team NAIA All-American honors...also reached semis of Ojai Valley NAIA singles event...ranked as high as 12 in Southern California Boys 18's and 60 in the nation...as high as 8 in Southern California Men's Open in 2008...as a sophomore played #1 singles and #2 doubles (with Wei) for the Stags...was 26-6 in singles, including 19-5 in dual matches...became only the second Stag to win the prestigious Ojai Valley singles title, doing so without losing more than eight games in any of his five matches...reached the quarters of the NCAA singles tournament as the #2 seed to become one of three Stags to earn ITA All-American honors...was unanimous selection as SCIAC Athlete of the Year, becoming the fourth CMS player in five years to earn the conference's top award...earned a year-end ITA singles national ranking of #5...with Wei at the #2 doubles position went 22-5...the pair also reached the consolation semifinals at Pacific Coast Doubles, with wins over teams from Boston College and Stanford, and the quarters of Ojai...finished with a 22-6 mark overall...as a junior picked up right where he left off last May, winning the USTA / ITA West Regional singles title as the tournament's top seed...earned ITA All-American honors by virtue of the singles title and advanced to Small College Nationals in Mobile, AL, where he won two of three matches to finish third in the Division III event...earns a #4 ITA national singles ranking and #1 west regional ranking for the fall...partnered newcomer Warren Wood in doubles, with the duo winning four of five matches to reach the West Regional final...he and Wood rank #10 nationally and #3 in the west in the fall...began the spring campaign fighting injury and illness, which sidelined him for nearly a month...as a result moved between the #1 and #2 singles spots and #1 and #3 doubles...won 11 of 13 singles matches between March 10 and the end of April, highlighted by a semifinal showing at Ojai...began the spring at #1 doubles with Wood and then re-emerged with Erani at #3 after a two week layoff...he and Erani won their first four dual matches at #3, then entered Ojai doubles as an unseeded team...defeated three seeded teams and five #1 teams en route to winning the title, the second CMS #3 team in three years to win an Ojai title...moved to #1 doubles after Ojai for SCIACs and the NCAA Team Championships...earned 1st Team All-SCIAC honors for second year in a row...finished with a 22-9 singles record and a 24-7 doubles record to have the most combined singles and doubles wins on the team...as a senior spent fall in Paris, France as part of CMC's study abroad program...returned in the spring to conclude a remarkably consistent career as a Stag...won more than twenty singles and doubles matches for the third straight season, going 25-7 in singles and 24-6 in doubles...played the majority of his dual matches at the #4 singles position, although also appearing at #1 and #2 one time each, and #3 six times....won ten straight matches between March 15 and April 5 and 13 of 15 through April 21...went on his usual tear at the Ojai, winning five matches and reaching the singles final, losing to Ballou of Cal Lutheran for the second straight year...en route the final as an unseeded player, Lane defeated Bettwy (Santa Cruz), teammate Wood, and Lipscomb (Redlands)...following the Ojai, Lane stayed unbeaten without losing a set in his next seven matches before losing at #3 in the NCAA team championship match...in doubles played at the #3 position exclusively with Nik Marino...the pair started slow, dropping two of their first three as a team, then rattled off 18 wins in their next 20 matches...Lane finishes his CMS Tennis career with jaw-dropping records of 73-22 (.768) in singles, and 70-19 (.787) in doubles...his 73 singles wins places him #14 all-time in career wins - the only player in the top 20 to have ever done so in only three seasons...his .768 career winning percentage is third all-time in CMS Tennis history...his doubles numbers are equally, if not more impressive, considering that he played with four partners (Wei as a sophomore, Wood and Erani as a junior, and Marino as a senior)... his 70 career wins put him 16th all-time, while his career winnning percentage of .787 is sixth best in Stags Tennis history, all in only three seasons...Lane again earned All-SCIAC honors, this time as a second team selection due to his position in the Stags lineup...he concludes 2013 with singles rankings of #12 in the west and #40 nationally and as an ITA Scholar-Athlete (for achieving a 3.5 GPA or better) and CMS Wall of Fame Inductee (1st Team All-SCIAC and 3.0 or better GPA)...this future CMS Hall-of-Famer will be remembered for his intensity and passion whether on court clinching a big win, or off court inspiring his teammates to do their best.
