Four CMS Men's Tennis Players Capture ITA Scholar-Athlete Honors
CLAREMONT, Calif. - Four members of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2023-24 season, the organization announced today.
Senior Ian Freer, junior Tarm Rojanasoonthon, and sophomores Advik Mareedu and Warren Pham each earned the honor for carrying over a 3.5 GPA during the past academic year. The Stags also earned ITA All-Academic Team distinction for carrying a team GPA over a 3.2.
Freer earned third-team Academic All-America honors in his final season, as well as All-America honors in doubles, while graduating from Claremont McKenna with a degree in economics and data science.
Mareedu, who majors in computer science at Harvey Mudd, was a first-team Academic All-America winner as only a sophomore, after earning All-America honors in singles for the second year in a row and finishing the season ranked No. 2 in the nation.
Pham also majors in engineering at Harvey Mudd and had a 22-6 dual record in singles for the Stags, including winning all three of his matches at the NCAA Championships (quarterfinals, semifinals and finals) in straight sets. Rojanasoonthon, who transferred in to Claremont McKenna this year and majors in economics and mathematics, also won all three of his singles matches at nationals.
CMS finished the season with a 29-4 record, captured the SCIAC regular season and postseason titles, and reached the national championship match of the NCAA Division III Tournament.
