Advik Mareedu won 30 singles matches for the second straight year

Mareedu No. 3 in Final Singles Rankings, Freer/Robinson No. 7 in Doubles for Stags Tennis

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's team finished the year ranked No. 2 in the final ITA Division III rankings, while Advik Mareedu was No. 3 in singles and Ian Freer and Matthew Robinson ended ranked No. 7 in doubles, the ITA announced this week.

Mareedu finished with a 30-6 singles record for the second year in a row, clinching All-America in singles by winning the ITA West Regional in the fall. He was ranked No. 2 in the nation heading into NCAA Tournament play, and had a key win over the No. 1 player (Tristan Bradley of Bowdoin), to break a 4-4 tie in the NCAA Semifinals, which was the only loss Bradley suffered all season.

By ending the year ranked in the top 10, Freer and Robinson clinch ITA All-America honors in doubles for the second time each. Freer earned it in 2020 with Nikolai Parodi, while Robinson captured it last year playing with Christian Settles.

Freer and Robinson did not compete in the fall, but became the CMS No. 1 doubles team in the spring and won 19 matches. They had a big tiebreaker win in the NCAA Quarterfinals against Tufts to help the Stags to a 5-3 win, which was their 13th win in a row against Division III opponents, with only a loss to NAIA Westcliff interrupting that streak.

CMS finished as the national runner-up after reaching the NCAA championship match for the first time since 2019, while winning its regional for the 13th straight season.
