CMS Men's Tennis Wins 14th Straight, Knocks Off Cal Lutheran 8-1

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The top-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team earned its 14th win in a row, defeating Cal Lutheran 8-1 on Friday evening at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.

With the win, CMS now stands at 18-3 on the year and 3-0 in the SCIAC, extending its winning streak in league matches to 148 (156 including the SCIAC Postseason Tournament), dating back to 2005. 

Ian Freer and Matthew Robinson, the No. 1 ranked doubles team in the West, needed a service break in the final game to earn a 8-6 win at the top position. Freer, who is 8th in the region in singles, won a hard fought 6-2, 7-6(5) victory at No. 2 singles,  while Robinson, ranked No. 9 in the West, picked up his fifth win in a row at No. 3, which put the Stags up 8-0 in the dual.

Advik Mareedu teamed with Josh Kim for an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles for the Stags first point of the evening. Mareedu then added his ninth straight win of the season at No. 1 singles in straight sets.

Tarm Rojanasoonthon also had a doubles-singles sweep for the Stags, taking an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles with Anirudh Reddy, and then earning the clinch for CMS with his 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles. Rojanasoonthon leads all Stags with sixteen doubles wins this season. Warren Pham was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 6 singles, his third straight and twelfth overall.

CMS will be back in action next weekend when it travels to Whittier on Friday, and then hosts No. 37 Chapman and No. 22 NAIA Westcliff on Saturday.
