CMS Men's Tennis Keeps Streaks Going With 8-1 Win at Occidental

EAGLE ROCK, Calif. - Ian Freer, Matthew Robinson, Tarm Rojanasoonthon and Warren Pham all won in both singles and doubles as the top-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team earned an 8-1 road win over Occidental on Saturday.

With the win, CMS moves to 17-3 with its 13th win in a row since returning from the ITA Indoor Championships, and its 155th SCIAC-sponsored match in a row, dating back to 2005. 

Pham and Rojanasoonthon won an 8-6 match at No. 3 doubles to give CMS a 2-1 lead, after Freer and Robinson, currently ranked as the top doubles team in the West Region, rolled to an 8-1 win at No. 1. The Stags then swept all six singles lines in straight sets to make it an 8-1 victory. 

Anirudh Gupta won his 19th singles match of the season at No. 4 singles, winning 6-0, 6-0 to put CMS ahead 3-1. Advik Mareedu rolled to a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 to put the Stags on the cusp of a clinch, and Freer finished it off at No. 2 with a 6-2, 6-2 win. Mareedu is now 21-4 in singles on the season, whle Freer moves to 12-5 at No. 2, and Robinson is at 14-3 at No. 3.

Rojanasoonthon also won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5, with Pham following shortly after with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6. Robinson capped off the match by taking a 6-1, 6-4 decision at No. 3. 

CMS will be back in action on Friday, when it hosts Cal Lutheran for a 6 p.m. match.
