CMS Men's Tennis Vaults to No. 1 in Latest ITA Team Rankings

CLAREMONT, Calif. - After a big week which saw the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team defeat four teams in the top 10, the Stags moved up from No. 7 to No. 1 in the latest team rankings released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.

CMS, which is 14-3 overall and 12-2 against DIII competition, has 81.91 points, to move just ahead of Emory with 79.52 points.

Emory defeated CMS at the ITA Indoor Championships, but the Stags have been on a roll since getting back outdoors, including wins in an eight-day span over No. 6 Bowdoin, No. 5 Tufts, No. 3 Middlebury and No. 8 Williams.

In the new rankings, Bowdoin places No. 3, Middlebury No. 6 and Williams No. 8, with all three suffering their only Division III losses so far at the hands of the Stags.

CMS is also now the home of both No. 1 programs, as the Athenas' women's tennis program held on to its No. 1 position after improving to 12-0 with a win over Middlebury, with Pomona-Pitzer ranked second.

The Stags will put their No. 1 ranking to the test this weekend when it travels to face No. 7 WashU in St. Louis, which will be the site of the NCAA Division III Championships in May.
