Anirudh Gupta Takes SCIAC Athlete of the Week Accolades for CMS Men's Tennis

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Anirudh Gupta of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team earned the SCIAC Athlete of the Week Award for events through Sunday, March 17, the conference office announced today.

Gupta earned the honor after playing a key role in the Stag-Hen Invitational Championship over the weekend. The seventh-ranked Stags earned a 4-3 win over No. 6 Bowdoin in the title match, which came down to Gupta's match at No. 4 singles. 

After dropping the first set 7-6, with the tiebreaker going to 8-6, Gupta trailed 5-3 in both the second and third sets, needing to break to get the win. Both times he succeeded and closed with four games in a row, winning 6-7, 7-5, 7-5 to give CMS the dramatic 5-4 win. 

Gupta was a perfect 3-0 in singles at the tournament, including a 6-0, 6-0 win in singles against No. 27 Babson. He also earned a 6-1, 6-3 win against No. 33 George Fox. 

CMS will be back in action when it hosts Tufts on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in a rematch of the 2023 NCAA Division III Semifinals, which the Jumbos won 5-4.
