Matthew Robinson Takes SCIAC Athlete of the Week Accolades for Stags Tennis

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Sophomore Matthew Robinson captured the SCIAC Athlete of the Week Award for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team for events through Sunday, Feb. 26, the league office announced today.

Robinson won in both singles and doubles as CMS took a 5-4 win over No. 1 Chicago to finish third at the ITA Indoor Championships. He was part of a comeback win at No. 2 doubles (8-7) to provide the swing point heading into singles, and then broke a 4-4 tie with a three-set win at No. 3 singles to provide the clincher. He was 3-0 in doubles on the week and 1-1 in singles (with an unfinished match) as CMS defeated No. 9 Pomona-Pitzer, fell to No. 2 Case Western, and defeated No. 1 Chicago.

It marks the second year in a row that Robinson has won the SCIAC Athlete of the Week following his performance at the ITA Indoors. A year ago, he went 6-0 in his matches against Chicago, Emory and Brandeis.

CMS will be back in action this weekend when it travels to Point Loma on Saturday, while also competing at the Pacific Coast Doubles Championship in La Jolla on Friday and Saturday.
