Matthew Robinson Earns SCIAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week Distinction

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Matthew Robinson earned the SCIAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week Award for events through Sunday, Feb. 27, the league office announced on Monday.

Robinson was 6-0 against tough competition at the ITA Indoor Nationals, sweeping all three of his singles and doubles matches against Chicago, Emory and Brandeis, while playing with two different doubles partners. He took a three-setter in singles (6-1, 3-6, 6-2) in a 5-4 loss to Chicago, but dominated his matches against Emory (6-1, 6-1) and Brandeis (6-1, 6-2) to help CMS to a pair of key wins, including a rematch of the 2019 national championship against Emory.

Robinson remains perfect in dual matches this season in singles at 5-0 (8-1 overall, with the one loss to teammate Ethan Carroll at the ITA West Regionals) and 6-1 in doubles, with the only loss coming to USC. He also becomes the second winner for CMS so far this season, after Robert Liu captured the honor two weeks ago.

CMS will return to action this weekend at the Pacific Coast Doubles Championship in La Jolla on Friday and Saturday, while also playing a dual match against Villanova on Saturday at 4 p.m.
