Incoming CMS Men's Tennis Player Morgan Schilling Nominated for USA Today National HS Player of the Year

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Incoming Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis player Morgan Schilling (CMC '25) is a nominee for the National Boys Tennis Player of the Year Award at the inaugural USA Today High School Sports Awards show, which will air online on August 5.

The pool of nominees was chosen from state award winners, and Schilling was chosen to represent Colorado after winning two straight 5A state singles championships while competing for Regis Jesuit High School in Aurora, Colorado. He won the singles championship match this past November in dominant fashion, earning a 6-1, 6-2 victory behind 16 service aces.

In 2019, Schilling won both the state singles championship and the team championship with Regis Jesuit, earning the individual title with a 6-4, 6-3 win in the finals, and then contributing to an 83-70 team win over Cherry Creek, which was the fifth state title in program history. Regis Jesuit also won the 2018 state title, during Schilling's sophomore season, when he ended the year the state runner-up in singles.

Schilling will be joining a CMS program that is no stranger to its own success, including the 2015 NCAA Division III national championship. The Stags were also the national runner-up in the last season they competed in 2019, and ended the 2020 season ranked No. 2 in the nation before sports were suspended due to COVID-19. CMS has not lost a conference match since 2005, earning 14 straight SCIAC championships.

The USA Today High School Sports Award show will be co-hosted by Michael Strahan and Rob Gronkowski, and will be broadcast for free on USA Today's website, beginning at 8 p.m. (EST) on August 5. More information can be found at the website below.
