THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The No. 2-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team took to the road to begin SCIAC play, blanking Cal Lutheran 9-0 on Friday. Casey Morris, Jack Katzman and Nikolai Parodi all won two matches each, as CMS began a busy Friday and Saturday of three dual matches in just over twenty-four hours.

CMS earned its first doubles sweep since winning all three positions against Ottawa University Arizona on February 8. Parodi and first year Ian Freer continued their solid play at the top, converting three service breaks into an 8-3 win. Katzman and Robert Liu won their ninth match as a team at the No. 2 spot, while Morris and senior Daniel Park paired for the second time this season at No. 3.

Needing only two singles wins to clinch their first conference victory of the 2020 season, the Stags were efficient at every position. Katzman raced out to a 5-1 lead at No. 2 when his opponent was forced to retire with an acute shoulder injury, giving CMS a 4-0 lead. Morris provided the clinch minutes later with a dominant 6-0, 6-1 performance at No. 3 singles. Parodi won his team-leading 13th singles match at No. 1 for a 6-0 CMS lead, before Jake Williams, Ian Habbestad, and Michael Hao all contributed straight set wins at Nos. 5, 6, and 4 singles respectively.

With their first conference win of 2020, the Stags improve their overall record to 10-1. CMS travels to Whittier for another SCIAC contest on Saturday at 10 AM, and then return to Biszantz for a 4 PM dual against Clark University.
