Nic Meister Wins SCIAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week Honor

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Sophomore Nic Meister earned the SCIAC Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week award for matches through Sunday, Jan. 19, the league office announced today.

Meister earned the honor after starting out dual competition with a 3-0 record in singles to lead the Stags to three-wins on its trip to Hawaii. CMS defeated Pacific (Ore.) and Trinity (Texas) 8-1, sandwiched around a tight 4-2 win over Hawaii Pacific, ranked No. 9 in Division II.

In the opener against Pacific, Meister played No. 1 singles for the first time and earned an impressive 6-3, 6-1 win to help the Stags to the victory. Equally as impressive, he played at the No. 3 line against Hawaii Pacific, a Division II power, and took a 6-4, 6-2 decision.

Meister added a third win by retirement to cap off the weekend and improve to 5-1 overall in singles this season to 5-1, with the only defeat coming in a second-set tiebreaker to teammate Ian Freer in the quarterfinals of the ITA West Regionals in the fall.

CMS will be back in action on Feb. 8 for two home matches at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center, taking on Hope International and Azusa Pacific.
