
CMS Men's Tennis Begins NCAA Regional Play on Friday
CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's tennis team, ranked No. 1 in the nation, will serve as one of eight regional hosts for the NCAA Division III Championships, welcoming in Whitman, UT Dallas and Trinity (Texas) to the Biszantz Family Tennis Center on Friday and Saturday.
CMS will open against UT Dallas on Friday at noon (pushed back two hours due to weather delay), with Trinity and Whitman battling in the other semifinal. The two winners will move on to Saturday's championship match, which will be held at 10 a.m.
CMS enters the NCAA Tournament at 29-1 on the year and has been ranked No. 1 nationally for the last six weeks. The Stags will be trying to make it to the NCAA Championship quarterfinals, which will be held in Kalamazoo, Michigan this season, for the 10th year in a row, including a national title season in 2015.
Trinity comes in ranked No. 13 in the nation with a 16-9 overall record, defeating Southwestern 5-0 to win the SCAC Championship on April 21. Whitman is ranked No. 26 with a 12-10 record, including seven straight wins, capped off with a 6-0 win over George Fox in the NWC Championship. UT Dallas, meanwhile, is 16-1 overall and has won 10 straight, earning the ASC title with a 5-1 win over Concordia (Texas).
