Stags suffer second loss to #11 Bowdoin

A day after beating rival Amherst, #2 CMS Stags Tennis suffered a 7-2 loss at the hands of #11 Bowdoin. Juniors Glenn Hull (Brookings, OR) and Max Macey (Wilton, CT) earned straight set wins at #2 and #4 singles to give CMS their only points on an otherwise difficult afternoon for the Stags.

For the second time in eight days CMS was swept in doubles by a ranked D3 opponent. The Stags struggled to hold serve on all three courts, as Bowdoin earned three service breaks at the top two positions and two breaks at #3.

Needing first sets on at least five of six courts in order to stage a comeback, the Stags managed to win opening sets at only #1, #2, and #4 singles. Both Hull and Macey followed up strong performances against Amherst with impressive straight set wins. Senior captain Skyler Butts (Santa Ana, CA) held a one set and an early break lead in the second before the Polar Bears' Luke Tercek fought back for a 6-7(5), 6-4, (10-2) win at #1.

The Stags are 12-2 overall and host fourth ranked University of Chicago and SCIAC opponent Chapman at 10 AM and 3 PM this Friday, March 25.
