Men's Tennis Rolls Against #12 Redlands

The top ranked CMS Stags Tennis program earned another key SCIAC win Saturday, defeating #12 Redlands 7-2 at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center. Led by the trio of super sophomores - Warren Wood (Del, Mar, CA), Joe Dorn (Washington D.C.), and Nikolas Marino (San Diego, CA) - CMS remained perfect against Division III opponents and is now 4-0 in conference play.

Wood and Dorn put the Stags on the scoreboard first with their twenty-first win as a team. CMS' #1 pair capitalized on a single break in the sixth game and secured an 8-5 win, facing only one break point in seven service games. Marino and partner Alex Lane (Sr. - Claremont, CA) put the Stags up 2-0 with their 8-3 win at #3, setting the stage for another doubles sweep against a formidable nationally ranked foe. However, CMS' #2 team of Skyler Butts (Fr. - Santa Ana, CA) and Neel Kotrappa (Jr. Capt - La Verne, CA) couldn't preserve a two service break lead at 6-3, as Redlands registered its first point with a 9-7 win.

Wood, Dorn, and Marino all collected their second wins on the afternoon, registering convincing two set victories at the top three singles positions. Senior Alex Johnson (Thousand Oaks, CA) was first off for the Stags at #6 singles. Dorn then followed at #2 with an impressive 6-1, 6-1 win to put the Stags up 4-1. Wood and Marino's wins at #1 and #3 increased CMS' lead to 6-1 and improved their singles records to an identical 18-4 on the year. Butts then completed CMS' scoring the hard way, breaking serve at 5-4 down in the second set, and then toughing out a 7-2 tie-break victory.

CMS improves to 18-3 overall and retains the top position in SCIAC heading into the final week of regular season play. The Stags will host Chapman on Friday, April 12 at 2:00 PM. On Saturday, CMS travels to #22 Whittier at 10:00 AM, and then returns home to host Caltech at 3:00 PM.
