Stags Fall Short in 5-4 Decision To #3 Williams

Alex Johnson (Jr. - Thousand Oaks, CA [pictured right]) was one of three Stags to earn singles victories against #3 Williams on Friday. Johnson came back from a set down and then 5-3 down in the third set to secure the fourth and final point for CMS in a 5-4 loss to the Ephs.

CMS got victories from Johnson at #4, Alex Lane (Jr. - Claremont, CA) at #1, and Robbie Erani (Sr. - New York, NY) at #3. Lane was the only Stag to record two wins on the day, as he and partner Warren Wood (Fr. - Del Mar, CA) got CMS on the scoreboard with their 8-6 victory at #1 doubles. For Lane, it was his fifth straight dual match win against a ranked opponent, and improves his record to 14-4 on the year. Lane has now won five of seven three-set matches on the season, with three of those victories coming after losing the first set.

CMS will look to rebound at 1:00 PM Saturday against #1 Amherst. The Lord Jeffs return to Claremont as defending NCAA champs and owners of a 33-1 record in 2011. Their lone setback was a 6-3 loss to the Stags a year ago.
