Men's Tennis Defeats Lafayette and Skidmore

Sophomore Alex Lane (Claremont, CA [pictured right]) won two singles and two doubles matches on Thursday to lead the Stags over Division I Lafayette College and #24 Skidmore. Lane surrendered only five games in two singles matches as CMS earned 9-0 and 8-1 wins to move to 11-2 on the season.

Lane and freshman Zhenya Pereverzin (Clackamas, OR) were the only four match winners on the day for CMS. Pereverzin was a winner at #4 singles against Lafayette and #6 singles against Skidmore. He teamed with senior captain Ronald Wu (Los Altos, CA) for two lopsided wins at #1 doubles. The singles wins were Pereverzin's fourth and fifth consecutive this season. Wu's win at #5 kept him at a perfect 8-0 in dual match play this spring.

The Stags' win over Lafayette is its first over a Division I opponent this season, while Skidmore became CMS' third nationally ranked victim in Division III thus far. CMS dropped one spot from #3 to #4 in the Division III national rankings released today, but remain as the top team in the West. Lane and Alex Johnson (So. - Thousand Oaks, CA) rank #2 and #3 respectively in West region singles, followed by Russell Brockett (Sr. - Austin, TX) at #13, Mac Cahill (So. - Southport, CT) at #20, and Wu at #22. Lane and junior Brandon Wei (Lake Oswego, OR) debut at #11 in the West region doubles rankings.

The Stags end their current homestand against #2 ranked Amherst on Saturday at 1:00 PM, followed by a 6:00 PM match against Lewis & Clark.
