Men's Tennis Moves to 5-0 With Doubleheader Win

CMS Men's Tennis won against Brandeis and Chapman on Saturday, improving the Stags' record to 5-0. Sophomore Alex Lane (Claremont, CA [pictured right]) led CMS to a 7-2 victory over #30 Brandeis, winning at #1 singles and #2 doubles. Lane has yet to lose a set in singles or doubles thus far this season.

Lane helped CMS get out to an early lead in the doubles against Brandeis, as he and partner Brandon Wei (Jr. - Lake Oswego, OR) were easy winners at the #2 position. After Brandies had evened the match with a win at #3, Robbie Erani (Jr. - New York, NY) and Ronald Wu (Sr. Capt - Los Altos, CA) put the Stags up for good with a tough 8-5 win at #1. In the singles, CMS won straight set matches at #1, 3, #5 and #6, with Erani and sophomore Matt Ellis (Mercer Island, WA) playing third set match tie-breaks to determine their matches at #2 and #4 respectively.

In the late afternoon match against Chapman, CMS swept the doubles after again struggling at the #3 position. In the singles, no Stag lost more than five games, with freshman Zhenya Pereverzin (Clackamas, OR) and sophomore Mac Cahill (Southport, CT) earning the fourth and match decisive fifth points for CMS.

Next up for the Stags are matches on Thursday in La Jolla, CA. CMS takes on #22 Mary Washington at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club, and #31 UC San Diego. Six (6) CMS doubles teams will be participating in the 122nd Pacific Coast Doubles Championships, with play also beginning on Thursday.
