Stags Defeat #1 Gustavus 7-2
CMS Stags Tennis got its second win in as many days over a top five nationally ranked team by defeating #1 ranked Gustavus Adolphus College 7-2 on Wednesday. Juniors Guillaume Schils (Jr. - Shaker Heights, OH) and Lawrence Wang (Jr. - Orange, CA), were reunited at #1 doubles and won in a tie-break to give the Stags their second consecutive doubles sweep.
For Wang, who partnered Mike Starr (So. - San Ramon, CA) the previous day, the win was his second consecutive over a top ranked team. Against GAC's Andy Bryan and Charlie Paukert - ranked #4 nationally as a team - Schils and Wang led 7-4 before losing two service games and returning to stay in the match. CMS #1 team then won eleven (11) of the last thirteen (13) points of the match to win 7-1 in the tie-break.
In the singles, CMS got out to a better start than they had the previous day against Middlebury, this time winning first sets at the three through six positions. Starr returned to the singles lineup at #4 and earned a 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 win, while Ronald Wu (Fr. - Los Altos, CA) and Drew Sabater (Jr. - Claremont, CA) each got their second singles win in as many days.
With Wednesday's win, CMS moves to 14-4 on the season. The Stags travel to Texas on Thursday to begin a three match trip against #8 Trinity (Friday at 3:00 PM), #9 Williams (Saturday at 12 Noon), and #3 Washington University - St. Louis (Sunday at 10:00 AM).
