Stags Fall to Slugs in ITA Indoor Final

CMS Men's Tennis lost in the final of the ITA National Indoors to west region rival UC Santa Cruz on Sunday. The Stags lost by a surprising 9-0 margin, as the Slugs captured their second ITA Indoor title.

Although the Stags played four of the six singles matches to decisive match tie-breaks, they were unable to capitalize in any of the 10-point tie-breaks. The Stags also trailed after the doubles for the second consecutive match - a first this season. CMS' second place finish this year was highlighted by a thrilling 5-4 win over #2 seed and host Gustavus Adolphus College in the semis. The Stags returned to the ITA National Indoor tournament for their second appearance ever, after finishing sixth in 2005.

The Stags take on nationally ranked University of Mary Washington and regional foe La Sierra University on Wednesday, March 7 at 2:00 PM. Prior to that, the Stags' #1 doubles pair William Ellison (Shaker Heights, OH) and David Oehm (Menlo Park, CA) will represent CMS in the 118th annual Pacific Coast Doubles Tournament in La Jolla, CA, March 2-4.
