Stags Conclude Regular Season On Roll
The men's tennis team concluded their regular season schedule with 9-0 wins over Pomona-Pitzer and Chapman University on Saturday. The wins improved the team's record to 22-6 overall and 7-0 in SCIAC play. The team will now move into championship competition. The Stags will be the number one seed at the SCIAC Championships this weekend. They will play eighth seed Caltech and the winner of the Occidental/Cal Lutheran match in the semifinals. If the seeding holds, CMS will face Redlands, a team they beat 9-0 last week, in the final. The winner of the SCIAC title will receive an automatic berth into the NCAA Championships.
After the SCIAC Championships, the team will compete at the Ojai Valley tournament with several players competing individually in singles and doubles against the top Division III competition on the West Coast. Following Ojai, the Stags will participate in the NCAA Championships where they look to improve on last year's fifth place finish.
CMS is currently ranked fourth in the nation. They have played the most difficult schedule in the country. They have defeated 10 nationally ranked teams, including six top 10 Division III teams, two Division II teams and a Division I team. Their six defeats are to DIII #1, NAIA #1, #6 and 21 and to a D I team.
