Stags Advance to SCIAC Semis
CMS Men's Tennis defeated Caltech 5-0 on Friday, in a SCIAC Tournament first round match interrupted by rain twice. The match was originally scheduled for 9:00 AM but ultimately got underway at 2:30 PM due to rainy weather. The dual match - played to decision - started with the singles, and Stags #3 Spencer MacColl (FR - Greenbrae, CA) got CMS out to a 1-0 lead with a decisive straight set win. Junior Ben Hough (Spokane, WA) then followed with a 6-2, 6-0 win at #1 to put CMS up 2-0. With wins from two freshmen at #5 and #6 singles, Myles Crandall (Tucson, AZ) and Mathias Mondino (Westport, CT), put CMS ahead 4-0 when the first rain delay occured. After another rain delay and two venue changes, sophomore Drew Sabater (Claremont, CA) closed out the victory for the Stags in straight sets. CMS moves on to play Occidental in the semi-finals at 10:00 AM, with final round matches scheduled for 2:00 PM.
