Stags Sweep Caltech and Chapman
The CMS Stags Tennis Team had two impressive 6-1 victories on Saturday, defeating Caltech in the morning and then Chapman in the afternoon. Against Caltech, the Stags dropped only two games in winning the doubles point, and then went on to win five of six singles matches in convincing fashion. Freshman Kirthi Narasimhan won at #5 singles to earn his second conference victory of the season and improve his overall record to 4-2. Against a strong Chapman team, the Stags again swept the doubles to earn the point, and then lost only three sets in winning five of six singles. Sophomore Eric Chow, playing #1 singles, capped off an outstanding day with a 6-2, 6-1 victory to pace the Stags. Chow and Jason Evans also won both of their doubles matches to move to 18-4 as a team this season. With the wins, the Stags finish SCIAC regular season play with a 5-2 record and a third place finish. Overall, they move to 13-12. Next up for the Stags is the SCIAC tournament which begins Friday at Whittier College. As the #3 seed, the Stags will again play Caltech(#6) in the first round. If they advance, the Stags will play the winner of Cal Lutheran (#2) and La Verne (#7) on Friday afternoon.
