Justin Blachman adds the tying goal against Pomona-Pitzer

Blachman's Goal gives CMS Men's Soccer 1-1 Tie with Pomona-Pitzer

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Justin Blachman scored the game tying goal 41:24 into the first half, enabling the Claremont Mudd-Scripps men's soccer team to finish with a 1-1 tie against the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens on Wednesday night in the first of two Sixth Street rivalry games this season.

With the draw, CMS saw its record move to 8-1-2, 6-0-1 in SCIAC play while extending its unbeaten streak to nine games (8-0-1). Pomona-Pitzer moved to 5-3-1, 3-2-1 with the tying finish.

The Sagehens jumped out to the early 1-0 lead after an unfortunate deflection led to Jeffrey Tiglon finding the back of the net 29:14 into the first half.

However, CMS responded right back once Rafael Otero beat his defender driving along the right sideline before cutting back to the middle to set up Blachman for the game tying goal just 12 minutes later.

The Stags had seven shots in the game, while also having other dangerous opportunities inside the penalty area fall short when Pomona-Pitzer deflected loose balls out of danger before CMS could shoot. Otero also nearly gave the Stags a dramatic win when he snapped a header towards the left post with just over a minute to play, but it barely sailed wide.

Eduardo De Anda finished with six saves on the night, seeing his record move to 7-0-2 this year and 16-1-3 in his career.

CMS will be back in action on Saturday night when they travel to take on Cal Lutheran at 7 p.m., looking to complete the season sweep after already defeating the Kingsmen 1-0 on Sep. 12.
