CMS Men's Soccer Wins Seventh Straight with 5-0 Victory over Whittier

CLAREMONT, Calif - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer team had five different players score goals, Eduardo De Anda had six saves to get the shutout and the Stags went on to defeat the Whittier Poets 5-0 on Wednesday night at Pritzlaff Field.

With the victory, CMS picked up their seventh win in a row while improving to 7-1-1 and 5-0 in SCIAC play. Whittier fell to 4-2, 2-2 on the season.

Harper Rubin converted a penalty kick 27:49 into the game to spark momentum for the Stags, leading to an early 1-0 lead. It was Rubin's fifth goal of the season, a team best and immediately led to CMS taking full control of the game shortly after.

Less than one minute into the second half, Jake Allmon beat several defenders on a long run from the midfield line and played a perfect cross pass to Walsh Kern who found the back of the net to give the Stags a 2-0 advantage.

In the 62nd minute, Lukas Huntington played a long cross near the sideline to the far post, where Eric Sanchez was unmarked and one-timed the shot to go up 3-0. Immediately after, Justin Blachman got the ball in the penalty area and snuck his shot right inside the short post his first goal of the season in the 63rd minute.

Lastly, Nico Del Villar sent the Stags into a wild celebration when he found the loose ball off a corner kick and struck the ball inside the left post to give the Stags a commanding 5-0 lead in the 87th minute.

De Anda yet again had impressive effort for the Stags with six saves, including a diving effort that included tipping the ball wide to the post divider in the first half. He improved his record to 7-0-1 this year and 16-1-2 in his career.

CMS will be back in action on Saturday night looking to grab their eighth consecutive win when they host the Caltech Beavers at 7:00 p.m.
