Rubin Captures SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week Honor for CMS Men's Soccer

CLAREMONT, Calif. - After scoring both CMS goals in a big 2-1 win over No. 5 Redlands, Harper Rubin earned the SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week Award for games through Sept. 19, the league office announced today.

Rubin scored in the final minute of the first half on a penalty kick to put CMS ahead 1-0, and then roofed a volley in the second half off a cross from Liam O'Reilly to make it a 2-0 game. It was his second two-goal game in a five-day span, after also scoring twice in a 4-1 win over Oglethorpe on Sept. 10.

The win enabled the Stags to open up league play with a win and knock Redlands from the ranks of the unbeaten. CMS now has a four-game winning streak, after also defeating La Verne 3-0 on Saturday.

The Redlands win was also a rematch of the last SCIAC Championship game, which the Stags won 2-0 at home in November of 2019. CMS hadn't played a league game since, after losing the 2020 season due to pandemic.

CMS will be back in action for two more SCIAC games this week, facing Chapman on the road on Wednesday and Occidental at home on Saturday at 7 p.m., the second half of a doubleheader with the CMS women's soccer team, which also faces Occidental at 4 p.m.
