CMS Men's Soccer Rolls to 5-0 Win Over La Verne

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Five different players scored goals as the CMS men's soccer team came away with an emphatic 5-0 road win over La Verne on Saturday evening to remain undefeated in SCIAC play.

With the win, CMS now moves to 8-2-1 overall and 5-0-1 in the SCIAC, as well as 17-2-1 in league play over the last two years. One of those two losses was a 1-0 defeat at La Verne last year, but the Stags were able to flip the script to dominate the match and take their third road league win in three tries. La Verne came into the contest at 3-1 in league play but now falls to 8-4 overall and 3-2 in the SCIAC.

Sophomore Ethan Tyng got CMS started with a goal at the 11:11 mark, his sixth of the season, to put the Stags in front early. Junior William Birchard then found the net at the 30:31 mark of the first half to give CMS a 2-0 lead heading into the break, his second goal of the season.

CMS quickly squashed any thoughts of a La Verne comeback by scoring two quick second-half goals just over five minutes apart. Senior Cole Smith scored off a pass from sophomore midfielder Samay Rahim just 6:49 into the second half to make it 3-0, and junior Daniel Rohde scored off a pass from sophomore William Barton at the 57:27 mark to make it a 4-0 game.

With 16:51 to play, junior Henry Kraham capped off the scoring with his first goal of the season, making the final score 5-0.

CMS held a 13-4 edge in shots on the day, as the Stags' two goalies needed to make only two saves with sophomore Eduardo DeAnda picking them both up over his 67 minutes of playing time. La Verne's two goals combined for five saves in the loss.

The Stags, who remain alone in first in the SCIAC, will return to action at home next Saturday when they face Pomona-Pitzer for a 7 p.m. contest.
