Road loss to Chapman 2-1

ORANGE, Calif. – After two wins last week, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's soccer team came up against tough competition this week, dropping today's game to Chapman on the road, 2-1. CMS holds the 7-3 record overall, 5-3 in SCIAC play.

CMS took a very early lead, scoring in the fourth minute. Senior Mehron Abdi (CMC) knocked in his fourth goal of the season. Now, he and freshman Patrick Burke (CMC) are tied leading the team in goals.

Two goals for the Panthers within ten minutes of each other, and before halftime, put the Stags on their heels for the final minutes of the first period.

A relatively even shot count during the game indicated the teams' parity. CMS edged out Chapman in the first half and then Chapman came back in the second half with more aggressive finishing efforts, three of which were on frame and saved by CMS keeper Daniel Cui (CMC).

The Stags returned to dominate the possession in the second half but were unsuccessful in evening the score. Four CMS players contributed a pair of shots each but both of junior Jacob Skoll (CMC) and senior Elijah Lichtenberg's (CMC) shots were on target. Chapman's goalie Sean Augustine made saves on seven of the Stags' shots this afternoon and earned the win for the Panthers.

Two red cards in the second half caused both teams to play a man-down for the final ten minutes of play resulting in only 20 players on the field.

CMS next takes the field at home against Caltech on Monday, Oct. 3 at 7 p.m.
