Stags Advance To Tournament Final

Stags Advance To Tournament Final

Harrison Doyle broke a scoreless tie 20 seconds into the second overtime to give CMS a 1-0 win at Redlands in the SCIAC Tournament semifinals.  The Stags advance to their fourth straight tournament final, but this will be the first year that they will host the game.  CMS (12-6-2) will face Whittier (10-11), who upset top-ranked Pomona-Pitzer 4-1 earlier today, at 12:00 pm on Saturday afternoon.

This game marked the sixth straight year that CMS has played at Redlands in the SCIAC Tournament and, as always, the game was tight throughout.  Both teams were fairly even in corners (CMS 6-5) and fouls (Redlands 15-14), but the Stags held the edge in shots throughout the contest ending with a 24-18 margin.

The CMS front line of Jake Bishop, Doyle and Jared Bernstein provided 15 of the Stags' shots and Doyle's fifth shot of the game and first of the second overtime period proved to be the game winner.  Daniel Roberts made five saves for CMS and recorded his second shutout of the season.

Mastej Kustura led the Bulldogs with five shots with Charles Izydorek adding four while Andreas Silva recorded seven saves in net.

CMS and Whittier played twice this season with both teams winning at home.  CMS won 3-1 on September 29 and Whittier won 2-1 on October 24.

The winner of Saturday's final will earn the SCIAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.
