Claire Hamson - Women's Soccer

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Sophomore goalie Claire Hamson had 11 saves to help the CMS women's soccer team come away with a 0-0 tie against first-place Pomona-Pitzer on Sunday, picking up a valuable road point in its quest to qualify for the SCIAC Tournament.

Hamson had three of her 11 saves in the first 10-minute overtime session, all of which were diving stops that she tipped off frame for corner kicks to deny the Sagehens quality goal-scoring opportunites. She also laid out for a diving stop off a free kick from just outside the penalty area in the 71st minute to keep the game scoreless in regulation.

The 11 saves were a new career high for Hamson, who's previous best was 10 set last year in a 2-0 loss. The shutout was her eighth of the season, two of which were 0-0 draws on the road where she kept the clean sheet for 20 extra minutes to help the Athenas earn a point.

Hamson and CMS have two big home games this week, beginning with a battle with Cal Lutheran on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at Pritzlaff Field in a contest that will be pivotal to the Athenas' SCIAC Tournament hopes. CMS will then host Whittier on Saturday at 7 p.m. before closing out the regular season next week with games against Redlands and Occidental.
