In the days of 100-plus miles of training per week, Conroy ran all the track events from the mile to the marathon. Upon graduation, he held school records in the 5,000 meters (14:56.8), 10,000 meters (30:59.4), and marathon (2:34:20). In 1971, he served as track team captain, was the SCIAC three-mile champion and qualified for the NAIA Championships in the 10,000. He also qualified in 1972. In cross country, Conroy earned first-team All-SCIAC honors twice. He was cross country team captain in 1970 and as a senior was on the first CMS cross country team to qualify for the national championship meet.
