Spring sports successes…so far

CMS’ spring teams are coming down the home stretch of the regular season, and postseason tournaments and championships are now just weeks away. The Athenas and Stags are primed to have a great deal of success this spring, and there have already been many highlights so far.

  • Baseball – Went 3-1 in the California Invitational against nonconference opponents earlier in the season and is 11-10 in home games.
  • Women’s Golf – Ranked eighth nationally in the Golfstat.com Division III rankings.
  • Men’s Golf – Ranked 12th nationally in the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Division III top-25 poll.
  • Women’s Lacrosse – Went 5-0 through its first round of conference matches and is in first place in the SCIAC. The Athenas received votes in the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) April 10 top-25 poll.
  • Softball – Registered a 2-1 win over Division III’s No. 1-ranked team, Berry (Ga.) College. The Athenas are in second place in the conference standings at 14-6.
  • Women’s Tennis – Ranked No. 2 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll after a 21-0 start, the team’s best start to a season since 2013.
  • Men’s Tennis – The Stags have reached as high as No. 2 in the ITA poll, with wins over two of the other top-5 teams. Also, the Stags are in first place in the conference standings.
  • Women’s Track & Field – Ranked No. 2 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III poll.
  • Men’s Track & Field – Went 7-1 in conference dual-meet competition which included a win over Division III’s fourth-ranked team, Occidental.
  • Women’s Water Polo – The Athenas are 6-5 so far this season against NCAA Division III competition.
