Claremont-Mudd-Scripps In The Polls (April 10)
CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps athletic department currently has seven spring teams in the national rankings, with two others receiving votes, as of April 10, 2024, as well as seven teams that finished the year in the top 20 from the fall and winter.
Leading the way are the women's tennis and men's tennis programs, who are both ranked No. 1 in the country in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) collegiate rankings. The Athenas have been holding steady at No. 1 all year since winning their second straight national championship last spring, while the Stags jumped to No. 1 two weeks ago after winning four straight matches over top-10 teams from the NESCAC (Bowdoin, Tufts, Middlebury and Williams).
The women's water polo team is at No. 2 in the Collegiate Water Polo Assocation (CWPA) Division III rankings, with a chance to move up to the top spot when it faces Pomona-Pitzer on April 20. The Sagehens hold the top spot, but needed overtime to defeat the Athenas in the first meeting, and the rematch could be for the No. 1 spot in Division III.
The men's and women's track and field teams stayed in the top 15 in the country in the latest ratings index released by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCCA) this week, with the Stags coming in at No. 8 and the Athenas at No. 12. The women's golf team is at No. 6 in the most recent Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA), while the men's golf team is at 11 in the latest poll from the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).
Women's lacrosse is receiving votes, just outside the top 25 in the latest poll from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA), while the baseball team, which was ranked earlier this spring, is still in the receiving votes category in the latest D3baseball.com poll.
In addition to the seven teams currently ranked, seven other teams finished in the national rankings in the final polls from the fall and winter, including men's water polo in the No. 1 spot after winning the USA Water Polo Division III national championship, while volleyball (No. 3), women's cross country (No. 4), men's swim and dive (No. 9), women's swim and dive (No. 12), men's cross country (No. 12) and men's basketball (No. 16) were all in the top 20.
