CMS Plans Biszantz Family Tennis Center Enhancements Ahead of Hosting Nationals in 2025

CLAREMONT, Calif. – Since 2009, the Biszantz Family Tennis Center on the campus of Claremont McKenna College has been viewed as the gold standard for collegiate tennis facilities in the country, hosting numerous regional and national championship events. In May of 2025, CMS once again has the privilege of hosting the NCAA Division III Tennis Championships in Claremont.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps athletics plans to make two major renovations to the facility ahead of hosting the NCAA Division III Tennis Championships to enhance the student-athlete and spectator experience.

  • The first phase is to add shade structures over the spectator seating areas at court 2 and court 5.
  • The second phase is to replace the two existing scoreboards, which are reaching the end of their usable lifespan.

"Not only will these enhancements create a first-class experience for spectators, but also it will ensure that the facility remains one of the premier NCAA Tennis venues and high on the list for NCAA Championship bids in the future," said Erica Perkins Jasper, the William B. Arce CMS Director of Athletics, Physical Education, & Recreation and George R. Roberts Fellow. "The ability for CMS to host the NCAA Championships, helps greatly in recruiting and enhances the student-athlete experience by providing an opportunity for CMS teams to compete at Nationals on their home courts."

Legendary former Stags Tennis head coach Hank Krieger was a vocal supporter for construction of a shade structure—particularly in "Hank's spot" behind court #2. With the passing of Coach Krieger in 2022, the goal is to make these projects a reality and name the scoreboards after Coach Krieger once again, to honor his legacy.

"My Dad loved coaching and later watching, Stags Tennis," said Jeffrey Krieger, son of Coach Krieger. "I know he would very happy that even on those very hot Claremont afternoons, the CMS Tennis community will be able to cheer on the teams - and keep track of scores on all 12 courts – all while sitting in the comfort of new shade structures at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center."
