Athenas Through Title IX: 1970s and 80s
Athletics underwent a major transformation in the 1970s with the momentous decision for CMC to become co-educational and the Claremont-Mudd athletics program joining together with Scripps College in 1976 to form the first Athena teams: volleyball, basketball, tennis, swimming & diving and track & field.
This week in honor of the 50th anniversary of Title IX (June 23) and as we continue to highlight Great Moments from 75 Years of Athletics, please join us in the celebration of CMS Athena teams.
-
Follow along throughout the week and learn more about the history of Athena teams at CMS. We’ll highlight different decades each day: Tuesday (1970s and 1980s), Wednesday (1990-2009), Thursday (2010-present).
-
Donate to your Athena team before June 30 and help elevate the experience of current Athena student-athletes.
