SCIAC honors All-Academic Team for 2015-16

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps was represented by 201 student-athletes on the 2015-16 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) All-Academic Team. The SCIAC recognizes student-athletes who have achieved at least a cumulative 3.4 grade point average and completed one full year at their institution.

It has been another outstanding year for Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athletics. On the largest scale, CMS broke into the top-10 in the Division III Learfield Directors’ Cup. During the 2015-16 year, many of the CMS student athletes were honored for their athletic and academic achievements.

CMS won 11 SCIAC championships, had 13 teams participate in the NCAA Championships, finished tied for 10th in the Directors' Cup Standings and tallied four national championships (3 individual and 1 team). Take a look back at the 2015-16 year in this highlight video.

CMS closes fall season in 12th nationally in D-III Directors’ Cup standings

In the third and final NCAA Division III Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings for the fall of 2015, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps finished in 12th overall nationally with a total of 210.00 points (last year CMS had 200.50 points in the fall and sat in 19th).

The Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) announced the selection of the organization's 2015 Men's Division III All-America Team on Dec. 16. Senior Tanner Cullen (CMC) capped off his collegiate career with the highest honor – being named the Division III Player of the Year.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s water polo team made its first-ever appearance in the National Collegiate Men’s Water Polo Championship in 2015 and placed fifth.

The sixth seeded Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s water polo team faced third seeded University of Southern California in a play-in game in the 2015 NCAA Men’s Water Polo Championships. The Stags came up short against the Trojans losing 20-5, the same score as when the two teams squared off earlier in the season. CMS finishes their season at 21-8 after winning the program’s 26th Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) title.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men?s water polo team earned a spot in the 2015 National Collegiate Men?s Water Polo Championship with their undefeated record in conference play (11-0) and winning the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s water polo program had four athletes earn All-SCIAC honors, highlighted by Tanner Cullen (CMC) as Athlete of the Year and Greg Lonzo being named the Coach of the Year for the second consecutive year. First Team selections include juniors Alex Waggoner (CMC) and Rye Newman (CMC), while junior Ellison Taylor (CMC) landed on the second team. In addition, senior Adam Hilborn (CMC) was selected to the All-SCIAC Sportsmanship Team.

With a 12-11 overtime victory over Whittier in the finals of the SCIAC Championships on Nov. 22, the CMS men’s water polo team won the program’s 26th conference championship.

The CMS men's water polo team defeated Whittier 12-11 in overtime to win the SCIAC Championships on Nov. 22 at Las Flores Park in La Verne. It is the 26th conference championship for the Stags.
