CMS closes fall season in 12th nationally in D-III Directors’ Cup standings

CLEVELAND, Ohio – In the third and final NCAA Division III Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings for the fall of 2015, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps finished in 12th overall nationally with a total of 210.00 points (last year CMS had 200.50 points in the fall and sat in 19th). CMS’ top-15 fall ranking is tops among D-III programs on the West Coast and in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC). The final fall standings were released on Dec. 23 by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA).

Women’s cross country (13th – 63 points), men’s cross country (7th -  72 points), women’s volleyball (17th – 50 points) and men’s water polo (5th – 25 points) were the fall teams for CMS that placed at their respective NCAA Championships and earned points for CMS. The final fall Directors’ Cup standings included results from the following fall sports: women’s cross country, men’s cross country, women’s field hockey, football, women’s soccer, men’s soccer, men’s water polo and volleyball. 

The Directors' Cup competition is now in its 21st year. The competition awards points to each athletic department based on its teams’ finishes at the NCAA Championships.

CMS has been the top finishing SCIAC representative in 15 of the first 20 years of the Directors’ Cup and also finished in the top-60 overall 18 times. The 2014-15 school year was the 12th top-30 finish for the program as CMS finished tied for a program-best 11th place finish.

The final standings of the 2015-16 school year are scheduled to be released on June 9, 2016.

The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 18 sports in Division III-- nine women’s and nine men’s.
