Swim and Dive Teams, Athletes Recognized for Academic Excellence By CSCAA

The College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) has named its Scholar All-America Teams for the Spring 2018 Semester and both the men's and women's swimming & diving teams from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps are included. The CSCAA also released the individuals selected as Scholar All-Americans, and six Stags along with six Athenas earned the distinction.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athletics is ranked third in the 2017-18 Division III Learfield Directors’ Cup standings, the program’s highest finish ever. This is the second-straight year that CMS has finished in the top-5 in the country.

For the 10th-straight year and 30th time in program history, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athletic Department claimed the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s Combined All-Sports Trophy. The Athenas earned 94 points this season and won the All-Sports Trophy on the women’s side by a 19-point margin, claiming their eighth-straight and 23rd overall. The Stags finished third in the standings on the men’s side with 65.5 points. Pomona-Pitzer won the men’s All-Sports Trophy.

Athenas Finish 19th at NCAA National Championships

Eleven members of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's swimming and diving team competed in the 2018 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving National Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. this week. The Athenas earned 34 points as a team to finish the Championships in 19th-place as a team. It was a team effort for the Athenas at the National Championships, CMS had a total of eight different Athenas contribute to the team point total. Jocelyn Crawford (CMC) and Claire Bacon-Brenes (SC) anchored the effort for CMS earning Honorable Mention accolades in individual events while also aiding the team effort in relays. Crawford won the Consolation Finals in the 50 Free in a time of 23.34 while Bacon-Brenes finished 14th in the 100 Breast in a time of 1:03.88. CMS also earned Honorable Mention All-American honors in the 200 Free Relay and 400 Medley Relay.

Fourteen members of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's and women's swimming and diving teams will compete in the 2018 NCAA National Championships beginning tomorrow at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind. Three Stags will compete in the Championships, while a total of 11 Athenas are making the trip for this year's National Meet.

Kendall Hollimon (CMC) and Maia Presti (SC) are heading to the 2018 Swimming and Diving National Championships after strong showings at the Regional Diving Prelims on Friday. Hollimon and Presti will represent CMS later this month at the National Championship Meet in Indianopolis, Ind. From Mar. 21-24.

On Wednesday evening the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) released the invited field for the NCAA Division III men's and women's swimming National Championships. Among the swimmers invited are 10 Athenas and two Stags. Henry Limm (HMC) and Sam Willett (CMC) will carry the torch for the men's program as the lone representatives, while on the women's side 10 swimmers will be in the pool from Mar. 21-24 at the Indiana University Natatorium on the campus of Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis.

Three Claremont-Mudd-Scripps divers will look to punch their ticket to the NCAA National Championships this weekend. Kendal Hollimon (CMC), Maia Presti (SC), and Nia-Renee Cooper (SC) will be in action this weekend starting at 2:00 p.m. on Friday at the Palo Alto College Aquatics Center in San Antonio, Texas for the NCAA Region 2 Diving Prelims hosted by Trinity (TX) College.

Athenas Grab Second at SCIAC Championships

The Athenas wrapped up the SCIAC Championships on Saturday night, finishing in second-place with 1,015 points. During the four-day Championship, the Athenas earned five First Team and a total of 18 All-SCIAC honors. Freshman Mia Syme (CMC) led the Athenas on the week with a pair of individual First Team accolades in the 500 Free and the 1650 Free. Her time of 4:57.37 in the 500 Free set a new SCIAC record in the event and was the first ever sub-five minute time in CMS history.

Over the next four days the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) will hold the men’s and women’s swimming and diving 2017-18 conference championships at the Brenda Villa Aquatic Center in Commerce, Calif. The Stags and Athenas will go toe-to-toe with the rest of the SCIAC. Both the men’s and women’s championships look to be tight contests, with the Stags and Athenas facing stiff challenges from the other eight SCIAC schools, but in particular from the Sagehens from the other side of Sixth Street.

In their final dual of the regular season the No. 16 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s swimming and diving team defeated the Chapman Panthers 196-103 to end the year with a 7-1 record against SCIAC teams. The Athenas won a total of 12 events on the day. It was a team effort for CMS on Saturday morning. Allie Umemoto (SC) was the lone Athena to win multiple individual events, claiming the 200 Free and 100 Free.

Sophomore Claire Bacon-Brenes (SC) broke the Axelrood Pool records in both the 100 and 200 Breaststroke on Saturday afternoon in a dual against Division I Loyola Marymount University. The Athenas handled the visiting Lions 189-73 with CMS winning 12 of the 14 events contested on the day.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's swimming and diving team picked up a pair of victories over the Occidental Tigers and Caltech Beavers on Saturday morning in Axelrood Pool. The Athenas topped the Tigers 227-66 and defeated the Beavers 229-44 in an impressive day for CMS swimming and diving. The Athenas won 15 of the 16 events contested on Saturday, including the first 11 to cruise to a dominating effort across the board.

Athenas Take Care of Regals in SCIAC Clash

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The No. 17 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's swimming and diving team handled the Cal Lutheran Regals 178-65 on Saturday morning for their second-straight dual victory. Emma Stacy (SC) claimed victories in the 200 IM and 100 Free to highlight the effort for the Athenas on the day. Mia Syme (CMC) also turned in a personal best, 10:37.20, in the 1000 Free to improve her already ninth-best time in CMS women’s swimming history. Syme finished over 30 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher and was a full lap in front of the field when she finished.

Rosenberger Wins a Pair in Rout of Blues on Wednesday

Senior Lauren Rosenberger (CMC) won the 200 Fly and 400 IM as the No. 17 Athenas defeated the Whitman Blues 200-61 on Wednesday afternoon. Despite the Athenas winning all 14 women's events in the meet, Rosenberger was the only swimmer to win multiple individual events on the afternoon. The other 10 individual events were won by 10 different Athenas, showing the balance of their roster.
