Athenas Take Care of Regals in SCIAC Clash

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The No. 17 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's swimming and diving team handled the Cal Lutheran Regals 178-65 on Saturday morning for their second-straight dual victory. Emma Stacy (SC) claimed victories in the 200 IM and 100 Free to highlight the effort for the Athenas on the day.

Mia Syme (CMC) also turned in a personal best, 10:37.20, in the 1000 Free to improve her already ninth-best time in CMS women's swimming history. Syme finished over 30 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher and was a full lap in front of the field when she finished.

The Athenas started the day with a comfortable victory and strong showing across the board in the 200 Medley Relay. CMS turned in the top three times in the race with the team of Anastasia Ibrahim (CMC), Bryn Edwards (CMC), Alanna DeMuro (CMC), and Natalia Orbach-Mandel (HMC) winning the event in a time of 1:50.59.

Emma Stacy's first victory of the day came in the 200 IM when she touched ahead of three teammates in 2:13.88. The Athenas owned the four fastest times in the event with Ivy Chen (HMC), Liv Baker (CMC), and Elena Kovachevich (SC) finishing behind Stacy.

Stacy narrowly picked up her second victory later in the day. She outstretched Cal Lutheran's Grace Sanchez in the 100 Free to win the event by .01 of a second. Stacy had to hold off a charging Sanchez in the second-half of the race to win with a time of 54.64.

Maia Presti (SC) started a strong day for the Athenas on the diving board with a victory in the three-meter competition. CMS took the top three spots in the competition with Presti leading the way with a score of 245.02. In the one-meter, CMS once again claimed the top three spots, but it was Nia Cooper (SC) that led the way with a score of 200.30, narrowly edging teammate Emily Bhatt's (CMC) score of 200.05 in the event.

Janet Tran (CMC) won the 100 Fly in a time of 59.42 and Baker out touched teammate Ibrahim to claim the 100 Back by just .05 of a second. Baker finished with a time of 1:01.44 to win the event.

In the 100 Breast, Bryn Edwards turned in a time of 1:10.52 to claim the final individual event of the afternoon. CMS capped off the day with the top four times in the 200 Free Relay. The team of Orbach-Mandel, Riley Hoffman (CMC), Allie Umemoto (SC), and Tran got to the wall in 1:40.63 to win the event and complete a dominating effort by the Athenas on the day.

CMS will be back in action next Saturday when they host Occidental and Caltech on Senior Day in Axelrood Pool. Diving is slated to begin at 10:00 a.m. with the swimming events getting underway at 11:00 a.m.
